Context:
Immunization plays a vital role in safeguarding children against vaccine-preventable diseases, providing them with crucial protection. However, a significant obstacle to achieving optimal immunization coverage is the lack of awareness surrounding these diseases and on the importance of handwashing with soap in reducing the risk of infections. When parents and caregivers are unaware of the potential risks and consequences of these illnesses, they may become complacent and fail to prioritize these critical behaviours. Raising awareness about the diseases and their potential impact is essential in overcoming this barrier and ensuring that children receive the necessary immunizations to stay healthy.

Purpose:
The purpose of the ‘Trap the Diseases’ activity is to introduce parents to vaccine-preventable diseases and reinforce the critical role of both immunization and handwashing with soap in protecting children from deadly infections. By showcasing the nine critical vaccine-preventable diseases- Polio, Tetanus, TB, Measles-Rubella, Pneumonia, Diarrhea, Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, and Japanese Encephalitis; and highlighting the effectiveness of HWWS, this activity empowers parents to take proactive steps in safeguarding their child’s well-being and preventing illnesses. With the support of a well-crafted script, it enables parents to understand the risks associated with these diseases and realize the potentially serious consequences if their child remains unprotected.

Parents of 0-2-year-old children
